This reputed college is named after this great educationalist Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee*  but it has no affiliation with any sector, religion, political group or thinking. It is hundred percent Government college maintained and governed by University Grants Commission, Delhi Administration and Delhi University.

Shyama Prasad Mukherji College is one of the prestigious college of Delhi University, strives for care, nurture, development and growth of all the students. It was established by Delhi Administration in 1969 in the memory of Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji, a great patriot, educationist, statesman, parliamentarian, humanitarian and a campaigner for national unity and integrity. He became the youngest Vice Chancellor of Calcutta University in 1934. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherji always held education and its cause close to his heart.

The college has a spacious building in Punjabi Bagh situated amidst sprawling lawns and play grounds, Our college endeavours to guide and prepare young girls to face the challenges of the modern world.

It works with a vision to bring about positive thinking towards bright future. This experience would enable them to touch the highest peaks of perfection in different spheres of life. The college has a history of providing the best of interaction between the teachers and students.  Besides excellence in academics, we have an established tradition of continuous achievement in the fields of sports, NCC, N.S.S. and cultural activities. We have made a special mark in the field of academics, community services and we offer courses in various subjects in Humanities, Commerce, Computers and Teachers Training to undergraduate students. Postgraduate courses are also available in certain subjects. The college is working to achieve a new personalized system of guidance and monitoring of all students.

The College has proud to have three studies Under the Scheme of 'Epoch making Social thinkers of India' Guru Nanak , Gandhian  and Buddhist Studies centers of S.P.M. College was established by U.G.C in March 2006.

The College today has approx. 2400 students on its rolls from various disciplines and has the necessary infrastructure for harmonious development of the personality of students. We have enrolled foreign students and also take special care of the visually impaired and physically challenged students. Besides all the above we have many Vocational Courses, Family Counseling Centre, Dramatics, Debates, Eco-Club and various study centers. The Institution feels honoured to launch prestigious teachers training programme B.Ed from this session. S.P.M thus becomes first college of the University to have this course outside C.I.E.

Ms. Junmoni of Applied Psy. (Hons.) Ist Year stood First in the Delhi University. Ms. Vernika of Applied Psy. (Hons.) IInd Year stood First in the Delhi University. Ms. Chandani Applied Psy. (Hons.) IInd Year stood First in the Delhi University. Ms. Priyanka Hindi (Hons.) IInd Year got Third position in the university. Ms. Anju of BA (Prog.) IInd Year stood second in the university. Ms. Ruchi Gupta of Maths (Hons.) IIIrd Year stood third in the university. All these students brought laurels to the college.
    
             The College wishes to achieve a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity in material and spiritual values. Our efforts are to weave these ideas in the personality of young girls, thus enriching their womanly grace and qualities to face the challenging roles enabling them to steer the society in the right direction.
