Dr. Surjit Kaur jolly
Dr. Surjit Kaur Jolly (b. 1950) started her career as a Lecturer of
History and later became the Principal of Shyama Prasad Mukherji
College, University of Deihi, Delhi. Her area of specialization includes
Gender Issues, Ecology, Human Rights, Spiritualism, Comparative
Religions and Gandhi. An efficient administrator and scholar of repute,
Dr. Jolly is actively associated with a number of professional
organizations/ institutions in
various capacities and visited USA, U.K., Germany, France, Russia, Japan
and many other countries. For her outstanding contribution in the
field of education and society, she received number of awards
like—Eminent Personality Award
(1997); Award for Contribution to Commonwealth Youth
Programme; Ambassador for Peace
Award; Best Administrator's Award; Bharat Jyoti Award; Award for
Communal Harmony; Outstanding Achievements Award; Lifetime Achievement
Award by 2004 Tertiary Education and Knowledge Summit and The
Lions Club honoured her with
Prashasti Patra. |

From the Desk of the Principal Shyama Prasad Mukherji College, strives for care, nurture, development and growth of all the students. It works with a vision to bring about positive thinking for a bright future. This experience would enable them to touch the highest peaks of perfection in different spheres of life. The college has a history of providing the best of interaction between the teachers and students. The non-teaching staff here is known for its helpful attitude towards all. Besides excellence in academics, we have an established tradition of continuous achievement in the fields of sports, NCC, N.S.S. and cultural activities. We have made a special mark in the field of academics, community services and we offer courses in various subjects in Humanities, Commerce, Computers and Teachers Training to undergraduate students. Postgraduate courses are also available in certain subjects. The college is working to achieve a new personalized system of guidance and monitoring of all students. The College tries to provide the entire infrastructure necessary for harmonious development of the personality of students. We have enrolled foreign students and also take special care of the visually impaired and physically challenged students. We are proud of our Professional Courses, Teachers Training Programme of B.EI.Ed., B.Sc. (Hons.) Computer Science and Applied Psychology Honours. Besides all the above we have many Vocational Courses, Family Counselling Centre, Dramatics, Debates, Eco-Club and various study centres. The Institution feels honoured to launch prestigious teachers training programme B.Ed from this session. S.P.M thus becomes first college of the University to have this course outside C.I.E. The convocation (graduation) and old students meet are organised to keep the thread of change and continuity going on. We endeavour to give career guidance and placement facilities. We are committed to provide excellence in education. The College wishes to achieve a beautiful blend of tradition and modernity in material and spiritual values.
